The British broadcaster was found to have committed a "significant breach" of broadcasting rules by omitting to mention that the voice of a film about Gaza was the offspring of a Hamas official, as ruled by British broadcasting authority Ofcom.
An probe by Ofcom into Gaza: How to Survive a Warzone has determined that the film was "significantly deceptive".
The chief executive of the broadcaster had already issued an apology, stating there had been "a major oversight in relation to accuracy".
Ofcom has directed the broadcaster to broadcast a prime-time announcement about its conclusions.
"Since this amounts to a serious breach of our rules, we are instructing the broadcaster to broadcast a statement of our findings against it on BBC Two at 9pm, with a timing to be determined," the regulator stated.
'Possibility to Damage Confidence'
The regulator's announcement said: "Our probe found that the programme's omission to reveal that the narrator's male guardian held a role in the Hamas-controlled authority was materially misleading.
"It meant that the viewers did not have vital facts which may have been extremely pertinent to their evaluation of the narrator and the details he shared.
"Confidence is at the heart of the connection between a media organization and its audience, notably for a public service broadcaster such as the public broadcaster.
"This oversight had the possibility to erode the significantly high degrees of trust that audiences would have invested in a BBC factual programme about the Gaza conflict."
The programme was withdrawn from iPlayer in the month of February after the presenter's familial connections were revealed, and in July an corporation's own inquiry found it violated the broadcaster's editorial guidelines on truthfulness.
A BBC spokesperson said: "The authority's determination is in agreement with the results of the corporation's inquiry, that there was a major oversight in the film in relation to the BBC's Editorial Guidelines on factual correctness, which corresponds to regulation 2.2 of the authority's broadcasting regulations.
"We expressed regret for this and we accept the authority's determination in complete. We will comply with the sanction as soon as the date and language are determined."
